Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color - Review

The Festive Season is in full swing and things are about to get super busy! What with juggling work, Family, Christmas Shopping, Events at the school(s), Christmas parties etc, our diaries are jam packed and there is so much to organise this month. However, there is no denying this really is 'The Most Wonderful Time of The Year'. As I get into the Christmas Spirit
I find myself gravitating towards the colour 'Red'. It's so traditional and 'Christmasy'. I wear red more at this time of the year than at any other. I love a cosy red jumper or a really soft knitted red scarf, and of course what could be better than a cherry red gel manicure and a red lip colour to match.

I have a few red lipsticks that have been favourites of mine for many years. I have red shades in Matte and Satin finishes, but I decided to look for a red that was long lasting and transfer proof. I didn't want to worry about touch-ups, or checking a mirror every 5 minutes to make sure I didn't have the dreaded 'lipstick on my teeth' situation. I wanted something I could put on and forget about. While in my local Boots store I came across the Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color. It looked amazing on the model in the photo. I loved the glass like, glossy finish. It was unlike anything I owned.

The Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color claims to offer:
16 hours comfortable wear
All day lip colour and coverage
No need for touch-ups
Colour won't feather or bleed
Glossy Topcoat delivering intense moisture and shine, enriched with Camomile and Soy Extract

"Color plus moisture rich shine that works Overtime."

The Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color is a dual-ended product with colour on one end and a glossy topcoat at the other. I chose the shade Forever Scarlet. When I first opened the colour end I was very surprised by the amount of product inside, there was very little. I had to keep dipping the applicator in and twisting it around to get to the colour. On applying the product I was disappointed to find the formula was very sheer, it was in fact more like a lipgloss in terms of colour payoff. To achieve the amount of colour and coverage I was looking for (and expecting after seeing it on the model)  I had to apply quite a few layers. The formula does not layer well. It ended up looking quite patchy. I did the best I could with it and then let it dry before applying the gloss.

The gloss was easy enough to apply and felt very moisturising, making the colour very comfortable to wear. However, after a while I noticed the gloss had started to slide, making it's way past my lipliner. Not a good look! Overall I was quite disappointed with the product. The idea of a glossy, touch-up free, 16hr Red lip colour seemed perfect, but the reality was it just didn't work for me. It was a shame because the colour (after a few layers) was very pretty. I will say this - the product is long-wearing! I actually struggled to get it off. I used make-up remover and a cotton pad and that didn't work. I tried for ages, in vain. In the end I had to apply a lip balm and then rub almond oil on top before going to bed, with the hope of breaking it down over night. It came off the next morning (Thank Goodness!).

Final Thoughts:

I would give the The Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color a score of 4/10.
The colour (after a few layers) was gorgeous and the gloss gave a great finish, when first applied. However, the product was difficult to layer and the gloss ended up sliding. The product is long-wearing, feels comfortable and looks beautiful in photographs...  But I wouldn't buy it again.

Would I recommend this product?
Yes - If you are looking for a sheer coverage, long-wearing gloss.

Please let me know if you have tried this product. How did you get on? Do you have any tips on how to stop the gloss sliding? Let me know below.

The Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lip Color retails for around £8.99 and is available at major drug stores.
